“The Waiting is the hardest part.

Everyday you see one more card.

You take it on faith, you take it to the heart.

The waiting is the hardest part.”

-Tom Petty

How many times in life are we just like Spencer looking up the curvy slide.  We know that someone or something is sure to come down it but we are unable to see who or what and we do not know exactly when.  We are standing at the bottom on tip toes waiting.

What are you waiting for?  Are you waiting for a promotion to make more money and life will be easier?  Are you waiting for your spouse to change to make your life happier?  Are you waiting for your kids to grow up so you will no longer have to be so stressed out?  Are you waiting for that magic solution that will slide down the slide hit you with full force and make everything wonderful, easy, happy, non stressfull and just pure bliss?

Most of us know that the magic solution doesn’t exist.  We have to work harder for a promotion.  We have to give more selflessly to our spouse.  We have to parent our children and with that comes tons of stress.  It’s all work, work, work.  “The waiting is the hardest part.”

“Every day you see one more card”.  Each day we see a difference if we look at what we have accomplished and how far we have come in our relationships with others, coworkers, spouses, children and friends. If we take each day and try to grow a little bit more giving, a little bit more selfless, a little bit more loving.  It doesn’t make sense physically that if you give it all away you will gain.  However faith doesn’t make physical sense.  “You take it on faith, you take it to the heart”. To have faith we believe in something that we cannot see, hear or touch.  If we choose faith that God will get us to that next point, by opening our hearts up to giving all of our selfish needs away and giving only love to others, we will be filled with love.

Nothing, no promotion, no change in the heart of your spouse, not even your children growing older will make you as complete as God’s goodness will ever make you.  That searching we are all doing is to find something, someone to fill us up.

If we look hard enough up that slide and have faith in anticipation on our tip toes with excitement, one day we will know with certainty that God is at the top of the slide.  God will be sliding right into us.  We have to have faith that the things of this world are not what will complete us.  We have to  learn that the unconditional love that God has given to us should be given to others in our relationships with each other.

Are you on your tiptoes looking up the slide waiting for faith to fill you up?  Then open your heart and give it away and God will fill you up.
