Lori 2015

I remember about 10 years ago when I was asked to give one of my first talks ever on a retreat. An acquaintance was within earshot when the person asked me, and replied, “Lori, you don’t have a story to tell.” I was a bit taken back by the comment. The woman is known for her blunt and tactless comments, so I shouldn’t have been surprised. After, reflecting on the situation I came to the conclusion that of course I have a story; everyone has a story. My story may not be depressing, trying, and against all odds, but indeed I do have a story.

The story of each life starts with the simple but amazing fact that God decided to create each one of us with a purpose. That God created us in our mother’s womb and that we would have life at that time in the history of the world. Each one of us was born to someone and cared for by someone. I was loved by both my parents as well as my two older brothers and one older sister. I was raised in the Catholic Faith and Baptized to be an adopted daughter of God and a member of the Catholic faith. I was blessed with parents who truly loved each other, they have been married for over 50 years, just to one another. I was educated in the Catholic school system from 1st grade – 12th grade and then earned my Bachelor’s Degree from a local State university. I met the love of my life and was married after college and had 4 healthy, beautiful, intelligent children and am still married to the love of my life almost 20 years later. I have followed God’s call to me to become a Theology teacher and am earning a Master’s degree from Loyola University in New Orleans in Pastoral Ministry. After which, I plan to earn a certification in Spiritual Direction. I have written a blog everyday for 7.5 years without missing one day! I have been rejected formally by editors 6 times now, I am getting closer to being a published author (my dream). I am passionate about writing, speaking, and teaching my faith to others. I know my purpose in life is to move people closer to God in whatever way God deems best. I am open to do his will daily. God has blessed me beyond belief with my precious family and faith.  There are a ton of details and stories that have formed me and brought growth to my life, but in a nut shell that is me.

Each one of us has a beginning, a life at conception. A life here on earth. A time of childhood, adulthood, and now that has formed who we are as people. We each have had experiences that have tested our faith, and understanding of all that we know to be true. We have each had the opportunity to appreciate our lives  from a different perspective. We each have hundreds of stories to tell that would move others to laughter, tears, inspiration, and comfort. However, many of us are overlooked because our lives have not been pushed to any extreme. Fear not, God knows your story, he helped to create it.

Today, reflect on the stories of your life that have helped to form the person you have become. Write that story down in a journal or type it on your computer. Consider sharing it with a good friend or family member. Everyone who has lived has a story to give. What’s your story?
