The Unbearable Wholeness of Being

“The theodicy question is not why God allows bad things to happen to good people but why we abandon God in the face of suffering?” – Ilia Delio from The Unbearable Wholeness of Being.

This quote really gives me pause. God set this world in motion through the Big Bang everything was created, we were created from the stardust, and everything needed was created. God did not leave us but gave us free will. God has the power to intervene but at what cost? Yes, there are miracles and I pray for them daily but without free will no one can truly love. Why is it that when bad things happen in our lives we blame it on God? Instead we should turn to God and hang on tight knowing that God will never abandon us. I don’t believe in predestination, or a plan for our lives. I believe God created us knowing that we could add or take from this world and God loved us enough to let us decide. I think we crash into one another and accidents occur and diseases kill and injustice, and abuse happen. Through it all I believe that God never leaves our souls and if we surrender to God we will love selflessly as we are loved.
