Preschool, November 20, 2017 Daily Reflection

I ran across some pictures from 7 years ago when my youngest was in preschool. The preschool my children all attended was three days a week from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. It was the perfect way for my children to transition from home to a school setting. I was blessed to be able to be a stay at home mom for 14 years (although I worked part time). When I ask my children (who are all teenagers) which grade was their favorite they all say preschool!
Preschool is a time to learn how stand in a straight line, listen to directions from a teacher, practice writing your name, and perform small chores. It was time for fun, instruction, and learning to make new friends. Each day my children would show me what they learned at school and tell me all about the fun they had. After that school became more demanding; too much homework, studying, trying to focus on every subject including the boring ones. I am proud to say my children have had the fortune to be able to attend schools with excellent teachers who try to make learning fun. They know when it is fun, engaging, and interesting children learn better. My children really appreciate the schools they have attended. But when asked the best time preschool will always stand out! Their first introduction to school was a fun and intriguing time.

I can still remember bits and pieces of my preschool experience and all those feelings are happy and warm ones. There is a huge advantage when children enjoy their first exposure to school. Can you remember your preschool or first day of school?
