My throw pillows

These may look like some pretty throw pillows but they are so much more than that. These pillows were handmade and designed together as Christmas gifts to my husband and myself. The fabric was chosen carefully to coordinate with my living room. The stuffing was stuffed by hand ensuring that even the corners were filled. The final stitches were sewn by hands that I adore.

My daughter Anna and my mother made these pillows together. My mother has always been a wonderful seamstress and my daughter loves to sew with her. It is rare that they sew together. When my daughter was born my mother had a blood clot in her leg; it damaged her blood vessels within that leg causing her to have to keep the leg in motion or propped up when sitting. My mother had ideas of sewing with her granddaughter before this happened and they faded quickly. My mother still loves to sew with Anna but it is cumbersome and uncomfortable for her to do it for very long. Anna loves to learn from my mother. Every Christmas they make something for me. This Christmas it was the pillows. Those are not just pillows they are a representation of the time my child and my mother have spent together teaching, learning and bonding with one another. I love my pillows because it means they had that time together.

Family is precious to me and I want my children to know their grandparents. Luckily my children’s grandparents want the same from them. My children are so blessed to have grandparents that love them and want to have a relationship with them. The relationships we have as children form who we will be as adults. I am so pleased that my daughter has this relationship with my mom.
