“Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13
Yesterday I told my students that the best way to die would be to die as a martyr for your faith, laying down your life for another. It would not be the most peaceful, the easiest, or the most joyful. However, it would be the best way I could think of to go out of this world. To lay down my life for another. I can think of nothing greater that I could possibly do with my life.
this entry raises a thought/memory for me…when i was confirmed the bishop slapped (tapped) our cheek as a symbol that we were “soldiers of Christ” and were to be ready to die for our faith…now the bishop shakes hands and offers peace…a symbol that we are to LIVE our faith as “disciples of Christ”. Today I will reflect on the ways each day that I die to self in service to others in my life which is something I can and should do every day of my life on earth – becuase IF we ALL do that – think our different our earthly life will be!
