It looks like a cookie, January 26 Daily Reflection

The piece of a cookie

This looks like a broken or half eaten piece of an ordinary cookie right? Wrong, what you see in that precious open hand is selflessness.

“Anna is here in the office and she says she doesn’t feel well. She does not have a fever but she looks miserable.” The school secretary said with very sympathetic words over the phone to me.

“Anna, are you ok? I will be there as soon as I can. Go back to class for a little bit and see if you feel any better. If not when I get there I will take you home.” I told Anna over the phone.

“Ok mom.” Anna replied in a sad sickly and puny voice.

As we climbed into the van and she was settled in her seat about to go home to bed, feeling ill with a headache, Anna extended her hand to me with this piece of cookie in it. She said “Mom, we had a birthday in our class this morning and I saved you this piece of my cookie.”

My jaw dropped “Anna that is so selfless of you to think of me when you feel sick. Did you eat the rest of it or were you feeling too ill?”

“My belly doesn’t hurt that bad so I ate all but that piece I wanted to save it for you. I broke it off so you wouldn’t get sick.” Anna said looking a bit pale.

Tears filled my eyes as I took the cookie from her open extended hand and ate it and it was the sweetest cookie I have ever tasted in all my life.

Our children will teach us we just have to be open and willing to learn from them every day.
