A bandaid
“I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed” – this is what we say during the liturgy of the Eucharist at Mass. It is taken from Matthew 8:8
Only say the word and my soul shall be healed. My soul shall be healed. We know how to heal a scraped knee of a child, we hug them, kiss the wound and dress it. We know how to heal a fever, with rest. We know how to heal a broken heart, with time. But how does one heal a soul?
The soul that part of us that is the moral foundation of who we are, our spirit, the most vital part of us that survives death and moves beyond it. If our soul is wounded how do we heal it? It is not physical and cannot be bandaged. It is not chemical and cannot be rested. It is not emotional and cannot be treated with time and sympathy. It, that is our soul, is beyond our complete comprehension. What or who can heal something beyond human reasoning or understanding? The answer is the one that created the soul and breathed it into our beings. God alone can heal our soul. But we must be willing to ask for God’s intervention, for His mercy, His forgiveness and His Grace, for God alone can make us whole, complete and who we were intended to be.
If our soul is in jeopardy, parallel or question we must make ourselves vulnerable and ask for God on bended knee to “Only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” Are you ready for His mercy, His forgiveness, and His grace to complete you and heal your soul?
