Gifts! Gifts! Gifts! December 13, 2011 Daily Reflection

St. Bernard Gathering of Gifts! Gifts! Gifts!

Gifts! Gifts! Gifts! Unwrapping the true gift of Christmas.

Gifts! Gifts! Gifts! Black Friday, Christmas Lists, Ornaments, decorations, parties, schedules, programs, cookies to make, hurry up rush, do it, get it done, get that family tradition over with so we can just move on to the next thing on the list! Our culture has trained us well.

Jennifer Schiller and myself have developed a new event for Christmas. It only lasts 3 hours but it can have a lasting effect one that may change your Christmas for the better. We have had the opportunity to lead this event at two different Churches. We love it. It is uplifting, fun, social, insightful, prayerful and in the end gives people a chance to explore their own ways of celebrating Christmas. As Americans we have little time to reflect on our Christmas Values or traditions; we just move from point a to point b. This event gives people a chance to gather, listen and discuss their Christmas values through fun activities, talks and silent prayer.

How many Christmas seasons have you found yourself trying to find the Christmas spirit? It gets  weighed down by the obligations, many times we place on ourselves, the shopping and the hectic pace we keep. This event is an opportunity to find the Christmas Spirit and unwrap the true gift of Christmas – Jesus Christ. The gift that God gave us when He made himself flesh and in the still of the night came into our world , our lives and our hearts. We were given the ultimate gift of unconditional love. There were no Christmas trees, baked cookies or plastic santas in the yard, there was just love entering the world.

This year reflect on your Christmas List of obligations and consider what things bring you closer to the true gift of Christmas.

* If you are interested in bringing this retreat to your Church or Organization please leave a comment and I will be in touch.
