I donated blood

I donated blood

Yesterday, Holy Cross hosted an annual blood drive for the Red Cross. I had not planned to attempt to donate blood. However, I had a planning period and noticed that the blood drive did not look busy. So, I volunteered to donate, knowing that I would probably be rejected. I donated blood when I was a senior in high school. Since that time 24 years ago, I have been rejected. My iron count was always too low. I started taking an iron supplement two years ago and it worked! Yesterday, when my blood was tested I was told that my iron count was the lowest acceptable amount. I was accepted!!! Finally, I was able to give my blood away to someone who will need it someday. It is a wonderful feeling to know that I can help others in that way.

Today, consider giving the gift of life and donate your blood. It only took about 45 minutes of my time, one pint of my blood, and I was able to proudly wear a sticker that said, “Be nice to me. I gave blood today.”
