There is so much beauty in our lives, yet we often let the weeds choke out the good parts. How many times in life do we glance at the beautiful flowers coming up in the spring and then notice a dandelion? Suddenly, we become obsessed with killing the dandelions in the yard. We walk away from the beauty of the tulips in a mission to kill the weeds.

How often do we say things we regret almost immediately when we had a good thing going? Usually it happens because we feel threatened in some way; rejected, neglected, hurt, or jealous. If only we could stop the weeds from showing. If only we could just think before we speak. Then we would not say half the things that leave our lips. We are humans, not plants, we need to practice self control.

The next time you are in the presence of beauty, whether it is nature, loved ones or otherwise, try not to concentrate on the weeds instead devote your attention to the beauty.
