Who is driving? July 18, 2012 Daily Reflection

Driving my car

We feel like we have our hands on the steering wheel of this life. We know what direction we are going. We have full control of the car. We see the mountains ahead of us and we can look in the rearview mirror to see the hills we have climbed and left behind. We are passing other cars on the road. We have control of the speed of our cars.

It is true; we do control our lives as much as we possibly can. We are not puppets on a string that God is controlling from the heavens. God did not create us to be puppets. God granted every one of us free will. God wants us to make our own choices, steer our own lives, climb our mountains and learn from our mistakes.

What is not true is that we have complete control over our lives. We cannot have complete control because we do not live in a bubble. We cannot control what other people do on the roads. We cannot control disease and illness. We cannot control natural disasters or the course of other people.

We can do the best with what we have been given. We can live our lives to the fullest. We can make healthy choices to exercise, eat right, and stay away from situations we know will cause harm to our well being. We can seek good and kind people to surround us. We can learn from our mistakes. We can dream big and chase those dreams to make them a reality.

God wants us to steer the car but He is hoping that we will let Him seat in the passenger seat with us. God wants to be a part of our lives. God wants to guide, support, help and love us through it all.  God doesn’t want to control our lives. God wants us to love Him and have a relationship with Him.

Are you driving that car alone in your life? Do you want some company? God is waiting for the invitation to ride with you.
