Great Day of Service, 9/21/2016 Daily Reflection

20151110_205934-1Today, is the “Great Day of Service” for Holy Cross. It is the day when our school leaves the building and serves our community. I am the new service coordinator at Holy Cross and it is an honor to coordinate this day. It is the 4th year for this event. Holy Cross will have 270 students and 25 staff members give 2,000 hours of service to 8 non-profit organizations in Louisville and Southern Indiana. The agencies where we will serve are: Dare to Care, Uspiritus, Harbor House, Nazareth Home, St. Joseph’s Children’s Home, Americana Community Center, Sacred Heart Nursing Home and St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities of Southern, IN.

It is an exciting day when our students live what they have learned in Theology Class. Theology is learning about God and developing your faith life. Serving is living out the Gospel message of loving all people unconditionally. Each student will learn about the injustice in our community that the organization is trying to alleviate. They will learn ways to prevent the injustice and how to help the people who suffer because of it. They will also work along side of their teachers serving together.

Holy Cross is the only school in the Archdiocese of Louisville to serve in such a way. It makes me proud to work for a school who doesn’t just claim to be Catholic but lives it out! If you want to hear more about it check out WHAS Great Day Live this morning, we will be on it! Please say a prayer for all of our students, staff, and the organizations we will serve.
