Faith of A Child, October 15, 2014 Daily Reflection

Faith of a child

“He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.” – Matthew 18:2-5

I thought the faith of the child was based on the innocence of a child to see God and believe. However, I recently read a footnote from the Catholic Study Bible that said “the child is held up as a model for the disciples not because of any supposed innocence of children but because of their complete dependence on, and trust in, their parents. So must the disciples be, in respect to God.” (page 1370)

I just had to share this finding with others. Jesus Christ is asking that we depend completely on God like children depend on their parents. Can we do that? Can we set aside our need for power and control and give it over to God? Can we depend completely on God, His plan and His will in our lives?
