Anna was in her bedroom of the massive tree the kids discovered at the park last week. There were enough bedrooms, branches, for each of our 7 children to have their own room. As they swept out the dirt floor with a pine tree branch they talked of what they would have for dinner that evening. They, all 7 of them, were in another time and place. My sister and I could only see a tree with 7 kids climbing it. Our children could only see a house with limitless possibilities.
In this day and age of video games, computers and TVs, many parents have forgotten the simple pleasure of having their children play outside. Today if it is not raining where you are let your children play in the backyard, tell them to climb a tree, for real. Playing in a backyard using their imagination gives your children the opportunity to be creative. To use those brain cells that just sit dormant when vegetating in front of any type of screen. Give your child the gift of fresh air, imagination, green grass, trees to climb and just good old fashion playing outdoors as a child, today.
Hey! That’s my favorite shirt! ;D
I love playing house -though I’ve never played it in a tree before. My friends and I used to play it all the time at recess when we were little. The boys even played with us! Now it’s like there’s an imaginary line between us and those same boys. Sometimes I wish we could go back to playing house with boys and girls together, making up silly names like, “Colby Jack Cheese” =]
Luv the blog.
