In the beginning…October 27, 2014 Daily Reflection

Light shines in the darkness“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:1-6

This week I am reading John’s gospel and I find it so beautiful. There is something about the words that move my soul. I adore this first chapter. That Jesus Christ was with God in the beginning. He was the word become flesh. Without God nothing could be. I especially take strength in the fact that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. No matter how dark it becomes there is still an eternal flame. No matter, how many people claim there is no God, God still stands beside them, whether they like it or not. I think that others do not realize that our belief does not negate God’s existence. No matter who believes or does not believe God still exists and our doubt, sin and darkness can never overcome the power, strength or light of God and his never ending love for everyone of his creations.

I have no power on this earth except for the power I draw from the love of God. I have no strength but the strength from the love God has shown me. I have no purpose but to serve God with my life by loving others as God loves me. Without God I could not be. God has the words of eternal life. What better words could ever be spoken than “the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it” for nothing can take me away from God. I find such comfort and hope in this passage. What passages give your soul comfort, peace and hope?
