Yesterday, we at Holy Cross were blessed to listen to the story of Michael Morrison, a former NBA player. He told us of his childhood, struggles, education, and triumphs. He explained to the teens of Holy Cross that sitting on our bleachers are amazing people who will do great things with their lives.

He recounted the ups and downs of his life and told us of the choice he made that turned it all around. It was the moment when he learned the scripture, “So whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away: behold, new things have come.” – 2 Corinthians 5: 17. It was at this critical juncture in his life that he accepted Jesus Christ and for the first time felt like he could start over completely. That is exactly what he did. He started over, learned the skill of self-discipline, and became the man he wanted to be. He emphasized how that one choice, that one day, changed not only the course of his life but the course of his parent’s lives, his children, his family, and his friends.

The choices we make in our lives are not made in a vacuum but have an impact on not only us but everyone in our lives. Realize that you can choose your future right now with one choice. You can live the life you want to lead if you try hard enough, dream big enough, stick to the plan, have faith, and persevere. What choice will you make today that will change the course of your life and the lives of those you know?
